Emulation module (imitating the KAFAS camera) of the S8THA option - Speed Limit Info, for BMW F series cars where this option is missing in the basic configuration. This module is an optimal solution for those who want the functionality of a factory traffic sign recognition system without the costly installation of a full camera and sensor kit.
The functionality is implemented as a standard speed limit display option on a specific section of the road. The speed limit is displayed on the instrument panel (including on LED panels 6WA/6WB) and on the HUD (Head-Up Display) in the form of intuitive road signs. In addition to speed limit signs, the system also displays "No Passing", "End of All Restrictions", and "No Passing Zone" signs. On F-series LED instrument panels, a red border appears on the speedometer when the speed limit is exceeded, providing an additional visual warning for the driver.
This feature is especially useful when driving on unfamiliar roads, in heavy traffic, and in areas with many speed control radars, where the driver may miss a road sign. Speed limit information is taken directly from the standard NBT/MGU Professional navigation maps, so the more up-to-date the map version, the more accurate and complete the data displayed.
Sign display management is intuitive and flexible: they can be disabled using the BC (Board Computer) control stalk, and visibility can also be configured separately in the HUD projection display settings menu.
The module is installed via a Plug and Play scheme — without cutting wires or interfering with the standard wiring. The module connects to the original connectors behind the instrument panel. After physical installation, software activation (coding) of the option in the car's system is required. The module does not affect the vehicle's warranty and can be easily removed to return the system to its original state if necessary.
We do not provide installation services. Installation can be done yourself with basic automotive electronics skills, or you can contact any specialized service center that works with BMW.

An important difference between the emulation module and the full factory S8THA system is that it does not recognize temporary road signs (e.g., those installed during construction work) or seasonal restrictions on highways. In cases where the navigation system does not contain speed limit data for the current section of road, dashes "--" or the value "150" are displayed on the instrument panel.
Compatibility and Requirements
The module is supported by BMW F-series vehicles with a 6WA or 6WB instrument panel. A mandatory requirement is the presence of professional NBT or MGU navigation and a large display. The accuracy and completeness of the displayed information directly depend on the relevance of the navigation maps.

Activation Process (Coding)
After installing the module, changes must be made to the vehicle's software configuration. This can be done in two ways:
- Contact a specialized BMW service center, providing the specialists with the following coding parameters.
- Perform the coding yourself using special equipment and software.
Required coding changes:
- Headunit block (HU_NBT) → 3001 EXBOX → Speedlimit_Info → active
- Instrument Cluster block (KOMBI) → 3008 PIA_Einheiten → KI_PIA_Speed_Limit → active
- Instrument Cluster block (KOMBI) → 3008 PIA_Einheiten → HUD_PIA_Speed_Lim → active
- Instrument Cluster block (KOMBI) → 3000 Anzeige_Konfiguration → SPEED LIMIT GENERATION → sli_gen2_npi

Comparison with Factory S8THA Option
The full factory S8THA "Traffic Sign Recognition" option is a comprehensive system that includes:
- S5ASA - Driving Assistant: An additional KAFAS camera on the windshield to recognize cars, pedestrians, animals and issue warnings or emergency braking.
- S5ADA - Lane Departure Warning.
- S5ACA - Automatic High Beam.
- S5ATA Driving Assistant Plus (Traffic Jam Assist): Traffic jam assistant ("autopilot").
To retrofit the full S8THA kit from scratch, you will need:
| Component/Work | Note | Approximate Cost/Difficulty |
| KAFAS Camera | Main system sensor | High |
| Windshield for KAFAS | Special glass with a heated area for the camera | Expensive replacement |
| KAFAS Control Module | Electronic control unit | High |
| Assistant Control Panel | Buttons or levers | Medium |
| Steering wheel with vibration motor and sensors | For Traffic Jam Assist function | High |
| FSC activation codes | Binding to vehicle VIN | Additional costs |
| Installation and coding work | 3-5 days of specialist work | Labor-intensive and expensive |
| Total budget | Approximately 3,000 euros |
Against this background, the S8THA emulation module represents an economical and practical solution, allowing you to obtain the key function — speed limit display — for only a small fraction of the cost of the full kit, with minimal installation effort.
